It's great to have everyone back in class after the Easter holiday and you all look so smart in your summer uniforms!
Home Practice
Reading: In Year 2, children should read for at least 15/20 minutes every night and talk about the book.
This will help with understanding the text and learning new words.
Spelling: Please practise these spellings for your quiz on Friday (01.05.26):
judge edge hedge fridge bridge page rage cage stage change
Sumdog: Complete the fractions and spelling challenges.
Counting: Count forwards and backwards in quarters like we did in class. For example, 1/4, 2/4, 3/4, 1, 1 and 1/4, 1 and 2/4, 1 and 3/4, 2. See how far you can go!
You could also work on your 2, 5, 10 or 3 times tables, telling the time and doubling and halving.

English

We started our new learning through a book called "Lila and the Secret of Rain".
Lila lives in a Kenyan village where it hasn't rained for a long time. We wrote predictions from the front cover and we wrote in role as Lila.
We also made a rain maker and we will write instructions next week.
Maths
Our new topic is fractions and the children have been learning to find halves and quarters of shapes and amounts.
They have also learned how to find 2/4, or 3/4 of simple amounts. For example, 3/4 of 20 is 15.

History
Our new topic is Kings, Queens and Castles.
We found out about the different parts of a castle and labelled our own.

R.E
We read Luke's Gospel story of the Ascension and thought about how the disciples felt. We retold the story in our own words on a storyboard.

PE
We will be doing Yoga and Tennis this half term.
Hannah took small groups to work on their yoga poses. She was very impressed with Y2's focus and interest throughout the sessions.
Joe from South Ribble Tennis Centre taught the children great tennis skills and played mini games.
Science
We made a diary and set up an investigation to see which seeds grow best in different conditions.
Forest School
We worked in our nature area. We noticed all the new plants growing, tulips, bluebells and forget-me-knots.
