Home Practice
Reading: In Year 2, children should read for at least 15/20 minutes every night and talk about the book.
This will help with understanding the text and learning new words.
WE HAVE NOTICED THAT SOME CHILDREN HAVE NOT CHANGED THEIR BOOKS RECENTLY.
A FEW MINUTES OF READING EVERY NIGHT REALLY MAKES A DIFFERENCE. THANKS.
Remember you will get a sticker on your book mark for every book you read!
Spelling: Please practise these spellings for your quiz on Friday (07.11.25):
every great break steak pretty beautiful after fast last past
Sumdog: Complete the 'Measure' challenge.
We have also included a spelling challenge to help your child learn the spellings above.
Counting:
At home, count in 5's forwards and backwards.
What do you notice about the numbers you are counting each time?
You may also like to practise the 10x, 5x, 2x and 3x table on Hit The Button. Doubling and halving is also good to practise

English
We listened to the story of pumpkin soup and identified the contractions such as it's, didn't, I'll and don't.
We also investigated noun phrases such as 'old white cabin'.
We used our senses and imaginations to write noun phrases about duck's kitchen.
We will be continuing with this learning next week.

Maths
We have been measuring length, height and mass, using rulers and balance scales.
RE
Next week, we will continue learning about Baptism. It would be great if you could talk to your child about their own Baptism and maybe send some photographs (not precious ones) into school.
We will use them to further discuss what happens at a Baptism and the importance of being part of the Church family.

History

Year 2 read small extracts from the diary of Samuel Pepys and answered questions about what happened during the fire.
They found it interesting that Samuel Pepys buried his precious cheese and wine to stop it from burning in the fire!
We also looked at how London was rebuilt after the fire using bricks or stone instead of wood and how the houses would be built further apart to make them safer.
Science
We learnt about food chains. We drew our own food chains and we learnt a song about them.
Forest School
We went on a bug hunt in our log circle area. We had special pots to collect them in so we could look at them closely. The lids were special because they magnified what was in the pot. We found ladybirds, woodlice , worms, slugs , snails and other creatures that we need to research.
Art
We created our final piece of art. We used the metallic wax crayons again and special Brusho paint. The finished pieces are true works of art.
