Home Practice
Reading: In Year 2, children should read for at least 15/20 minutes every night and talk about the book.
This will help with understanding the text and learning new words.
WE HAVE NOTICED THAT SOME CHILDREN HAVE NOT CHANGED THEIR BOOKS RECENTLY.
A FEW MINUTES OF READING EVERY NIGHT REALLY MAKES A DIFFERENCE. THANKS.
Remember you will get a sticker on your book mark for every book you read!
Spelling: Please practise these spellings for your quiz on Friday (17.10.25):
wild climb most only both old cold gold hold told
Sumdog: Complete the 'Add 3 or 4 one-digit numbers' challenge.
We have also included a spelling challenge to help your child learn the spellings above.
Counting:
At home, count in 10's forwards and backwards but start on a 1-digit number.
For example, 2, 12, 22, 32, 42, 52 or 7, 17, 27, 37, 47, 57 or 8, 18, 28, 38, 48, 58, 68.
What do you notice about the numbers you are counting each time?

English
This week we have become owl experts. We read pieces of non-fiction writing about owls and wrote down all the facts we could find.
We learnt about the features of a non-chronological report, wrote a plan and started to write our own report.
We read our reports to the children in Reception and Year 3.
Phonics
We have been revising ai as in snail, ay as in play, ey as in grey.
Maths
The children have been adding/subtracting 2 digit numbers, 26+32 or 49-33 using tens and ones apparatus, lines and dots and by mental partitioning methods. We have also continued our work on number bonds to 10, 20 and 100. This came in useful when we were adding three 1-digit numbers together. For example, 3+5+7=15. The children calculated 3+7=10 first, then added the five to make 15.
RE
This week, we have revisited the sacrament of Baptism.
The children thought about the signs and symbols of Baptism (white garment, water, Baptismal Candle, oils) and what happens in Church when a baby is Baptised.
Science
We carried out an investigation to find out which microhabitats woodlice prefer. We went outside and investigated four microhabitats. We found out that they preferred being under leaves and under logs. We discussed why they prefer these conditions.
Forest School
We worked in our log circle area this week. We designed obstacle courses which included balancing, jumping, running and even a pinata!
We tested them for safety and then invited everyone to have a go.
There was great teamwork, co-operation, resilience and imagination shown.
We also found minibeasts, noticed the apples growing on the tree and discovered more fungi.
