Home Practice
Reading: In Year 1, children should read for at least 10/15 minutes daily and talk about the book/new words they come across.
This will help them become more confident and fluent readers.
Book changing day is on a Monday each week.
Please remember to send book bags in every day as we will read with your children on a regular basis.
Spelling: This week's tricky words are: looked, called, asked, saw.
Please practise reading and spelling these words. We will have a quiz at the end of next week.
Sumdog: Complete the measure challenge
and spelling challenge (the four tricky words above).
Sumdog is up and running correctly again!
Counting: Count forwards and backwards in 1's to 50. Play the follow me game we played in class - take turns to count the numbers.
You might want to have a go at this number challenge.

English
Our book this week was - Peace at Last by Julie Murphy.
The children wrote some instructions on how to make a cup of tea for Mr Bear (using time connectives - first, next then, finally).
They also gave advice on things Mr Bear could do to get to sleep.
Phonics/Handwriting
The children learnt some new phase 5 phonics this week, building on the sounds they already knew. We looked at ai/ay, ow/ou, igh/ie and ee/ea.
They have been neatly writing upper case and lower case letters on handwriting paper.
Maths
The children have been learning to measure length using cubes and paper clips. They have used the maths vocab - longer, shorter, taller or longest, shortest, tallest.
We also looked at comparing weight using balance scales, deciding if objects were equal weight, heavier or lighter.

RE
During worship time, the children learnt more about praying the Rosary.

Art
Year 1 used paint and leaf stampers to create beautiful Autumn trees.

Forest School is on a Wednesday - wellington boots are needed.
A fantastic session. The children always show brilliant consideration to each other, great teamwork and problem solving. We built dens, found and identified creatures, did some stick wrapping and made some muddy creations.
