Year 1 Blog - Friday 5th September 2025

Date: 5th Sep 2025 @ 12:52pm

Year 1 | Hollymount School

We are so proud of how well everyone has settled into Year 1!

Reading - Your child has new books in their book bag. Please try and read at least three times each week.

Please remember to bring book bags in each day. Books will be changed every Friday (or more often if wanted!)

English

We have read two lovely stories this week: A Letter From Your Teacher and Our Class is a Family.

We have been talking about how we might be feeling different emotions surrounding starting a new school year, and how this is okay! We also drew and labelled our families.

Phonics

We have been joining in with our phonics songs. We have also been reading real and nonsense words.

Maths

We have been counting in ones and practising our number formation. We have also been spotting patterns and making groups of numbers.

R.E.

We looked at different Bibles and recognised that they are special books which contain special stories. We talked about Jesus and God and recited our prayers.

P.E.

We went onto the playground and practised rolling, throwing and catching different sized balls.

P.S.H.E.

We learnt all about our brain in My Happy Mind. We drew pictures of our brains in our journal.
