Year 1 Blog Friday 4th September 2026
Date: 3rd Sep 2026 @ 9:38pm

The children have had a great week back and settled into Year 1 really well.
We are looking forward to a fantastic year of learning together.
Thank you for completing your holiday books. We will read them together over the next few days.
Reading
Year 1 have been issued with their home reading books.
We have put two/three reading books in the bag.
This should last a week as we will change the books every Thursday.
If you finish the books before then, you can re-read the books (this is beneficial and builds confidence) or enjoy a favourite book from home.
Of course, we are always happy to change books sooner if required.
Please remember to send book bags in every day as we will read with your children on a regular basis.

English
The children enjoyed reading our story together - Our Class is a Family by Shannon Olsen.
They wrote some super sentences and tried to remember finger spaces, sitting letters on the line and capital letters/full stops.
.
Maths
We have been learning number games this week.
The children used base ten to play the 'exchange up' game.
They also learnt how to play dominoes and the 'hundred square' game.

RE
We read the Creation Story and the children coloured and made paper chains about all the things God created.

Forest School/PE
Year 1 will be starting Forest School next Wednesday.
Please could your child bring a pair of named wellington boots into school.
We will have PE on Tuesdays.
Please could PE bags be sent into school next week.
