Home Practice

Reading: In Year 1, children should read for at least 10/15 minutes daily and talk about the book/new words they come across.

This will help them become more confident and fluent readers.

Book changing day is on a Monday each week.

Please remember to send book bags in every day as we will read with your children on a regular basis.

Spelling: This week's tricky words are: out, what, it's and she.

Please practise reading and spelling these words. We will have a quiz at the end of next week.

Sumdog: Complete the number challenge (1-20 Numbers and Words)

and spelling challenge (the four tricky words above).

Counting: Count forwards and backwards in 10's to 100.

You could write the numbers down and spot any patterns.

English

Our book this week was - The Tiger Who Came to Tea by Judith Kerr.

Year 1 wrote a description of the tiger, designed a tin of tiger food and sequenced the story using pictures.

Phonics/Handwriting

The children have revisited phase 2/3/4 phonics.

They played phonics games such as, Bingo, Phonics Aerobics, Popcorn and Cross the River.  

They have been neatly writing number words from one to twenty on handwriting paper.

Maths

We have continued counting objects and making sure we are correctly forming our numbers this week.

We also learnt more about numbers to thirty. The children could see that 16 is one ten and six ones and 24 is two groups of ten and four ones.

They enjoyed making these numbers with a variety of equipment - tens and ones, bundles of straws and counters/tens frames.

RE

After reading The Creation Story, the children thought about their favourite thing that God created.

They wrote what it was and drew lovely pictures.

Science

 The children created their own animals with special features such as beaks, fur, feathers, gills, scales or wings.

Art

Year 1 enjoyed watching a video clip that explored different spiral patterns in nature.

They used these ideas to help them draw some of their own versions in their sketch books.

Computing

We learnt about things that are technology and things that are not technology.

We had a go at stick wrapping. This is really good for our fine motor skills. We showed great perseverance and creativity.

We all worked together to move a huge log, amazing teamwork!

Someone found a shield bug and said, "It's a walking leaf".

There was some imaginative cooking, many insects were discovered and identified and there were also great climbing skills on show.

Forest School is on a  Wednesday - wellington boots are needed.
