Stoke Damerel Primary School - Welcome to Year 1

Home Practice

Reading: In Year 1, children should read for at least 10/15 minutes daily and talk about the book/new words they come across.

This will help them become more confident and fluent readers.

Book changing day is on a Monday each week.

Please remember to send book bags in every day as we will read with your children on a regular basis.

Spelling: This week's tricky words are: little, do, one and when.

Please practise reading and spelling these words. We will have a quiz at the end of next week.

Sumdog: Complete the number challenge.

Logins will be stuck into reading diaries and sent home on Monday.

The children have had some time on Sumdog in school.

Counting: Count forwards and backwards in 1's to 50 or 100.

Play the follow me game we learnt in class where you take turns to say the number.

For example, one person says 1, the other person says 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.

Our Pebbles by Jarvis | Waterstones

English

We have finished - Our Pebbles by Jarvis.

The children wrote sentences in speech bubbles about some of the things Grandad and the boy said to each other.

They also wrote a lovely description of their own pebbles that they painted during our Art lesson.

Capital letters/full stops/finger spaces and sitting letters on the line are always a big focus.

We also learnt about -ed and -ing endings. For example jumping, playing, walked, visited.

Phonics

The children have revisited phase 2/3/4 phonics.

They played phonics games such as, Bingo, Phonics Aerobics, Popcorn and Cross the River.

Help Your Child Master Tricky Teen Numbers

Maths

We have been counting objects and making sure we are correctly forming our numbers this week.

We also learnt more about teen numbers. The children could see that 14 is one ten and four ones.
