St Thomas CofE Primary Academy - Year 1

Home Practice

Reading: In Year 1, children should read for at least 10/15 minutes daily and talk about the book/new words they come across.

This will help them become more confident and fluent readers.

Book changing day has changed from Thursday to a Monday each week.

Please remember to send book bags in every day as we will read with your children on a regular basis.

Spelling: This week's tricky words are: some, come, were and there.

Please practise reading and spelling these words. We will have a quiz at the end of next week.

Sumdog: Complete the number challenge.

Logins will be issued and sent home asap.

Counting: Count forwards and backwards in 1's to 50 or 100.

Play the follow me game we learnt in class where you take turns to say the number.

For example, one person says 1, the other person says 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.

Our Pebbles by Jarvis | Waterstones

English

This week we have started our new story - Our Pebbles by Jarvis.

The children wrote some prediction (sensible guess) sentences about what they thought the story would be about.

They worked on capital letters/full stops/finger spaces and sitting letters on the line.

Handwriting (Curly Caterpillar Letters) has also been a focus - the letter c formation.

Phonics

The children have revisited phase 2/3/4 phonics.

They played phonics games such as, Bingo, Phonics Aerobics, Popcorn and Cross the River.

Maths: Grouping tens and ones - St James' Primary School, Wetherby.

Maths

We have been learning different number games this week.

The children used base ten to count and create pictures.

They also learnt how to play the Track Game with dice and Matching Pairs Game with number cards.

Year 1 also had a go at their first Arithmetic Quiz (supported) and did so well.

GNB Children's Rainbow Edition

RE

The children learnt more about the Bible this week. They had a chance to hold it and look inside.

They drew some super pictures and wrote a sentence about what they had learnt.

Pathway: Spirals - AccessArt: Sharing Visual Arts Inspiration

Art

We had fun creating spirals using crayons and then oil pastels.

Wearing PE Gear to School - St. Angela's College

We will have PE on Tuesdays.

Please remember to send named PE kits into school.

This week, the children have been working on their fundamental skills.

Riseley CofE Primary School - Forest School

We had a look in our garden to see what changes there has been since July. We harvested beans and peas.

We did some super mud cooking and digging. There was plenty of resilience on display when balancing and climbing trees.

Forest School is on a  Wednesday.

Please could your child bring a pair of named wellington boots into school.
