Year 6 Blog - Friday 5th September

Welcome to our first blog of the year! 

Year 6 have all worked so hard during their first week of school! They have put great effort into their lessons, been amazing role models and applied for their school 'jobs'. I would like to congratulate each of the children for their brilliant letters of application for responsibilities around school; we are looking forward to seeing all of our Year 6 working hard to support the school as ambassadors, eco team members, school councillers, sports captains, housepoint team members and much more! 

Thank you to everyone who completed a summer holiday challenge, it was lovely to see the children enjoying the outdoors this summer! 

This week in Year 6

English

In English, we have begun reading 'The Nowhere Emporium' by Ross Mckenzie. This week, we have explored the prolouge and created our own descriptions of a magical shop, inspired by Ross Mackenzie. We have also created a setting description for the interior of The Nowhere Emporium and written in role as Daniel when he first encounters the shop. 

Maths 

This week we have explored our place value topic. We have learned how to represent numbers up to 10,000,000 on a place value chart and challenged ourselves with our deeper learning tasks!  

RE

We have started our new RE topic this week, with a focus on the second story of creation. We have shared the story together and created storyboards to help us remember the key parts of the scripture.  

Topic 

This week, we started our Science topic, which is all about classification. We have learned about how animals are classified into different groups and made posters to show our learning. 

We have also begun our new Art topic, which is all about making a 2D drawing into a 3D drawing. We have explored the work of artist Lubaina Hamid and shared our opinions on their work! 

Homework will be handed out next week after meet the teacher.
