Writing

Following our ‘Understanding the World’ lesson about the coldest places on the planet, we wrote some sentences about some of the animals that live in these places

Maths

In Maths this week we began to learn about the concept of time.  We have been learning the days of the week and learning which order they are in (using our Phonics knowledge to help recognise the days too!).  We have also been discovering the concept of Faster/Slower by watching our friends undertake a task and seeing who finishes fastest.

Understanding the World – Science

This week we discovered the differences and similarities between the Arctic and the Antarctic.  We learnt that the Arctic is at the North Pole and that the Antarctic is at the South Pole.  We learnt that Polar Bears only live in the North and that Penguins only live in the South – as it is a long way between the two – the two animals that live in the coldest places on Earth do not meet!

Open Morning

This week we welcomed some visitors into our classroom to see what sort of things we get up to – we had lots of dinosaur inspired learning such as hunt the dinosaur bones for Phonics, we had a pre-historic dinosaur land in our outside areaWe also had a very special visitor on Wednesday afternoon when Mrs Robinson visited us with her new baby boy!

Transition Morning

On Thursday we had our first taste of being in Year 1.  We went into our new classroom and met the Year 1 team.  We learnt a bit about all of the staff and we also were shown where the important things are going to be such as our pegs and which doors we are going to use.  We are all looking forward to going into Year 1 – it’s going to be a great adventure!

Expressive Art and Design

In Art this week we made clay volcanoes which we are going to decorate next week.  We also watched an experiment in which we made our own volcanic explosion.

PE

This week in PE we played parachute games and concentrated on working as a team.
