Welcome to Reception's Friday Blog!
This week we have been learning all about Chicken Licken

Drawing Club
In our drawing club, we thought about the beginning, middle and end of the story. We drew a picture and tried our best to retell the story.
We practised lots of different voices for the characters when we read the story together.
Phonics
We recapped ch, sh ,th, ng, qu, ai, ee, igh, oa long/short oo.
she, he, we, be, me, we, was, you, they, my, her, are, all, like, said
Our new sounds are the ar and the or
ar - farm, car, barn
or - fork, corn, short
The children are working hard on their letter formation and trying to write their words on the lines.
Maths
Our focus has been to learn our doubles to 10.
We learnt that doubling is the same as adding two numbers together that are the same.
We used dominoes and ladybirds to help us.
1 + 1 = 2
2 + 2 = 4
3 + 3 = 6
4 + 4 = 8
5 + 5 = 10

Understanding the world
We continued to learn about life cycles - we watched a real life chick hatching from their egg.
We drew and labelled the chicks independently.

Science
We carried out a science experiment this week. We thought about what a plant needs to grow.
Then we put a bean into a bag. One bag was wet and the other was dry. The children discussed their ideas of which would grow and why.
We decided to put two beans on the window and two beans in a darker place in class to find one which will grow quicker.
RE
We learnt about 'Palm Sunday' this week.
Make sure to check out our galleries to see all our brilliant learning from this week!
