Welcome to Reception

Autumn 1

Topic – Ourselves

PSED

We have been thinking about what makes a good friend this week.

We sorted some pictures into kind and unkind choices that we make with our friends.

We have also revisited what we can do if we have big feelings, we spoke about ways to help calm us back down.

Drawing Club

We have continued to read ‘Owl Babies’ this week.

We had a go at retelling the story using a story map, the children were brilliant at using the images to help talk about what happens in the story.

We then decided to create our own version of the story.

Before the mummy owl came back the babies, the children made up their own unexpected event that happens.

We had lots of great ideas.

RE

This week role played a Baptism.

The children enjoyed using the baby to role play and took turns being the parents and godparents.

We looked at and spoke about the children's Baptism pictures that have been sent in.

Art

This week we collaged our own Autumn Leaves using our scissor skills.

We also made an Autumn Tree painting using the skill of printing with our fingers and cotton buds.

Understanding the World

We began to explore the senses this week.

We learnt that we have 5 different senses, taste, touch, sight, hearing and smelling.

We then explored smelling further by smelling different herbs from our outdoor area.

We used the magnifying glass and binoculars to make things bigger using our sight.

The last exploration was touch; we used a feely bag with different objects inside to described to our friends' what the things felt like.
