Supertato Party! | Southbank Centre

Welcome to Reception's Friday Blog!

Phonics

This week we have been learning the j, v and w sounds. We used them in words like jam, van and wig.

Drawing Club

We listened to our new story 'Supertato.'

We have been focussing on the characters this week, drawing our favourite character and describing what they look like.

We also had an emergency situation in class! Evil pea has trapped some of our fruits and vegetables from our home corner.

We investigated which foods we could see.

See the photos here.

Maths

This week we have been learning about  numbers and working out has more and which has less.

RE

This week we listened to scripture about the three kings visiting Jesus.

We learnt about the gifts of Gold, Frankinsense and Myrrh.

Then we played a game of pass the love. Each time it was our turn, we talked about how we could show love, just like Jesus.

Expressive Art and Design

We created repeating patterns with paint and shapes.

See the photos here.

Understanding the World

We continued our topic of People Who Help Us, by learning about the Police this week and what they do to help us!

My Happy Mind

We have been discussing what 'Gratitiude for experiences' is. We talked about visiting the park, our grandparents and trying new foods.

We had some lovely ideas to share with our friends about what experiences we enjoy.

PE

We travelled using hopping, skipping and frog jumps. Then we did a hopscotch, an underarm throw and a catching station.

To finish we played domes and dishes in team.

Forest School

We listened to some poems about winter and discussed some of the words. Then we went to see what we could see-we saw lots of naked trees! We also saw some branches which we think might have come off the trees during the storms. We saw mole holes and stopped for a few minutes just to listen. We heard a woodpecker.

We went into our top field and had a look at the pond.

We saw a heron, it was really still and then it took flight -it's wings were so wide!

At the end of the session we showed each other our treasures and then returned them to nature.
