Year 4

Home Practice 26th March 2021

Doesn’t time go fast – I can’t believe we’ve been back in school for 3 full weeks already, and there’s only one week to go before we break up for Easter!

We now have an Online Safety Blog on our website.  This is updated each Wednesday.  Please have a look at the blog as different guides will be uploaded weekly.  This week’s guides relate to WhatsApp, Fortnite and Comic Relief. We all have an important role in keeping our children safe in our ever growing online world.

Another great week in Year 4 made even better by a bit of lovely sunshine on Wednesday! This week, we have:

  • been learning about place value, both whole numbers and decimals, as well as discovering more about Roman Numerals
  • written some very descriptive pieces about the Ceremony of the Full Moon, which was stimulated by our current novel ‘The Firework Maker’s Daughter
  • competed in an inter-class athletics competition between ourselves and Year 3 – we are incredibly proud of ourselves for taking part and being great competitors
  • made PowerPoint presentations about different landmarks in Italy, as part of our geography topic, and started to present these to the class
  • written our own prayers for Palm Sunday

HOME PRACTICE

Please complete a little home practice every night as this is the key to success!

Reading

Please read for 20 minutes each evening to an adult at home.  Make sure you discuss the story and the characters.  Find the meaning of any new words too.  Reading every night will help you read more fluently and with understanding.

Times tables

You have been given your own individual times table target.  Please make sure you continue to practise your times tables in preparation for your test next week, on Wednesday 31st March 2021.  Ask someone at home to test you on your tables – can you recall them quickly and accurately?

Use the link here to practise your tables playing ‘Hit the button’. This is another excellent way to practise your tables.

Spellings

Your new spellings are all from the Year 3 / 4 Spelling list – a list of words which children should be able to read and spell by the time they leave Year 4.  The spellings will be tested on Thursday 1st April 2021.  There are some quite tricky words, so please practise them carefully each evening.

Sumdog Challenges

You have been set 3 challenges on Sumdog:

  • A spelling challenge based on the above spellings
  • A maths challenge related to decimals (tenths)
  • A maths challenge based on the 3 and 6 times tables (we have revisited these this week!)

Please make sure you log on and have a go!
