Home Practice

Keep changing your books regularly and read for at least 15-20 minutes every night!

Well done to everyone who completed their Sumdog challenges. Three new challenges have been added today. Remember, little and often every night will benefit your children with their learning in school.

Try and do a little counting at home as well. This will promote number fluency and understanding. There are lots of counting games here at ictgames.com that we use in school. You will also find lots of counting songs on YouTube.

We have given out your home spellings to practice for next week's test. In our spelling lessons this week we have been revisiting our spelling strategies, especially our past tense verb rules. Your spellings this week are from the statutory year 3/4 word list.

Minute, opposite, material, natural, ordinary, possible, naughty, particular, mention, notice, peculiar, potatoes, occasional, occasionally, perhaps, popular, often, pressure, position

This week in Year 3

In English, we finished reading Toro! Toro! and the children thoroughly enjoyed the story. They loved following the journey of Antonito and discussing the emotions and themes throughout the book. We have been working hard on retelling parts of the story and using ambitious vocabulary to make our writing more exciting and engaging.#

In RE, we continued our learning about the structure of the Mass. This week we focused especially on the Offertory and discussed why this part of the Mass is important. The children showed great understanding when explaining the different parts of the Mass and how we take part in them. We were very proud of the class as our visitors this week were extremely pleased with the children’s knowledge and the thoughtful way they answered questions about their learning.

In Maths, we have been learning about parallel and perpendicular lines in 2D shapes. The children worked brilliantly to identify and sort different examples. They also explained their reasoning clearly, showing a strong understanding of how lines relate to one another within shapes.

In DT, we began our new topic on mechanisms. This week we explored fixed pivots and loose pivots and learned how levers work. The children enjoyed experimenting and discovering how these mechanisms move.

In Art, we explored the textile artwork of Hannah Rae. The children looked closely at her work, discussing what they could see and how the artwork made them feel. They shared some thoughtful ideas and we look forward to exploring her style more in the coming weeks.

Make sure to check out our galleries.
