Welcome back to your final term in Year 3!

Anthony Curton C Of E Primary School Academy - Thrive

It has been lovely having everyone back ready for a busy last half term. Next week is our Sports Day and we are very excited to go on our trip to Cuerden Valley.

This week we have been reallly enjoying our novel. We explored Hagrid's home this week and wrote some fantastic recounts of the first flying lesson. Everyone is taking great care with their presentation and using their think pinks to improve their writing. Well done Year 3.

In maths we have been learning how to add and subtract fractions. This has proved tricky but everyone has shown great resilience in their learning. Lots of you have clearly used the Sumdog fractions challenge to refresh what you already know. Keep it up!

In our Egyptology learning we researched Gods and Godesses, exploring how they were depicted in Egyptian art and why they were worshipped. Have a look at some of our brilliant fact files here.

We also continued to design and create our very own canopic jars to house the organs of some mummies. We used what we know about the diffferent gods to help design the jars and used clay to carefully sculpt them. We will paint and glaze these next week.

Home Practice

Continue to read every night for a least 20 minutes. Regular reading will improve comprehension and fluency as well as unlocking a world of learning in all subjects. We have loved seeing all the books on Egypt and the Queen over the past few weeks!

Spelling and Maths challenges have been set on Wednesday. If you have completed these, access the training features to practise tricky skills. Theses are tailored to your child's learning needs. Regular practice of these will help boost spelling and number fluency.

You can also access the whole range of videos and games we have set over the year by clicking on 'View all blogs'.

Online Safety Update

This week, our update is focused on how to set up devices for children. Read our short guide below for some useful tips to safeguard young people against online risk.
