Our Science investigation: Where do our cats go when they go out and about?
Following on from the BBC Horizon programme called The Secret Life of Cats, The Royal Veterinary College invited us to replicate their work by tracking our pet cats. They supplied us with GPS trackers and collars which families attached to their cats for a 24 hour period, just like RVC scientists do when they are tracking big cats in Africa. The results showed us where the cats go at night! It was a fascinating project which involved a real science investigation, technology and lots of data handling. We even made our own satellites and learnt how they enable GPS to work. The children, and parents and teachers, learnt loads and had fun too. We would like to thank the RVC for their support in bringing science to life at St Oswald’s.
