SPAR Bowling Competition

St Oswald’s Year 5 and a team from Longton School both  enjoyed 2 Friday mornings of fierce competitive bowling, thanks to the sponsorship from Kevin Hunt at the SPAR Longton, Howard Patterson and the very kind volunteers from Longton Bowling Club.

The weather was cold and drizzly on the first Friday, but that did not dampen the enthusiasm of the players, all of the children were soon getting to grips with the bowls and using their bowling terms:  thumb peg’ , ‘finger peg’!

The second Friday, 3rd July,  approached, a more competitive spirit, blue sky and sunshine! Both schools were enthusiastic and played their absolute best in their teams.

There were bananas and water provided by the SPAR for half time break and after the final ‘end’ was played, we all retired to the Club house for refreshments ( big thank you to the ladies in the kitchen!)

The scores were counted and verified ………

4th  - St Oswald’s  Owls

3rd – St Oswald’s  Hawks

2nd – Longton  Kestrels

Winners -  Longton  Buzzards

Well Done to Longton School who took both the Winners and Runner-up cups!

Don’t get too attached to them Longton , we’ll be back!
