National Science and Engineering Week – breaking news!

After much research and discussion, Year 5 have voted for what they think is the best invention of all time. Here are the results…

In First Place, the TOILET! The first patent for a flushing water closet was issued to Alexander Cummings in 1775, sixty years before Thomas Crapper was born. Thomas Crapper, apparently, improved the toilet but didn’t invent it.

In second place, MEDICINES  including anaesthetics and x-rays.

In third place, ELECTRICITY. Benjamin Franklin is called the Father of Electricity because he first discovered that lightning was a source of electricity in 1752.
