Another great week of learning.We wrote to Prince Charming, measured our shoes and investigated the inside of a pumpkin. We also went on a successful Ladybird hunt on a beautiful Autumn day. Our week ended with a special ball and the Harvest Festival.

After coming second in the Indoor Athletics competition, at The Priory High School back in November, St Oswald’s were ready for the South Ribble Finals at Lostock Hall Academy. St Oswald’s Athletics Team had once again made it to the Lancashire Finals in Blackpool. They were up against 15 other top ranking schools in Lancashire. After a tough competition, the team ended up in 9th position. A huge achievement for everyone involved!

The Year 5 and 6 indoor athletics team took part in a competition at All Hallows High School. They were against 8 other primary schools and competed brilliantly. Everyone performed exceptionally as individuals and as a team. When the results came in, St Oswald’s won gold which put us through to the South Ribble Finals.
Y6 had a great day at Fulwood Barracks and the Museum of Lancashire.

Year 5 dressed up as their favourite book characters for World Book Day.
St Oswald’s celebrated the Euro 2016 with a tournament for Year 3, 4, 5 and 6. The competition lasted all day with the group stages in the morning and the semi finals and finals in the afternoon in front of the whole school. Congratulations to everyone who took part with lots of excellent teamwork!

Our super kitchen team once again pulled out all the stops to create a superb celebration lunch!
A Year 3 and 4 team were taken to Walton-le-Dale High School to compete against 14 other teams. After a long morning of fantastic team work and excellent performances, St Oswald’s won the event. Great work team! Now on to the Blackpool Finals in July!
A magical week in Year 1. Our Chicks arrived in style and made a home with us in our class. We watched them hatch and grow and recorded everything in our chick diaries. We were sad to see them go but look forward to hearing updates from the farmer on how they are getting on in their new home. Well done on a super few weeks year 1!

Well done to our Year 1 class on a super Mother’s Day Assembly!
We had a busy week getting ready! We made some lovely cards, bookmarks and pebbles. After our assembly we invited all our mums to come to our class for some juice and biscuits.
After two amazing performances from the Indoor Athletics Team, Year 5 and 6, we progressed to the County Championships. This was held in Accrington where the top 16 schools from all areas of Lancashire came to compete. Another great performance from all the team which helped us finish 9th!
WOW! What an amazing show!! A huge congratulations to all of KS2 for working so hard to perform such a fantastic performance of Oliver. The Year 6 children deserve a special mention for their outstanding acting and singing. Well done!
Year 6 had a fantastic time on their French exchange trip to Nimes.
This weekend we had a beautiful flower festival to celebrate our Church’s Golden Jubilee. Our church building was completed in November 1965 and has been the heart of the Catholic community in Longton for the past 50 years.
With the heatwave hitting the UK, Years 3 and 4 had a difficult task to compete in their events for Sports Day. Both years did brilliantly trying their hardest for their houses. Well done to everyone for giving it their all during this very hot day!
Year 5 art was inspired by the work of artist Frank Stella.
Five children from Year 3 were chosen to represent St Oswald’s school for the Gymnastics competition held at Walton le Dale High School where they had to memorise a floor routine and a vault routine. Every single one of the team enjoyed the morning, performed really well and were great ambassadors for the school.

Year 5 raise funds for the Home of Hope in India.
Year 5 and 6 have commemorated the 1914 Christmas Truce where the British and German soldiers had set aside their weapons and met in ‘No Man’s Land’. Just as the soldiers did, the Juniors sang Silent Night in English and German and then enjoyed taking part in a ‘Football Remembers’ competition.
Year 4 had a wonderful day dressing up as Super Heroes and eating delicious cakes.However, the party was gatecrashed by two strange looking bat bunnies! Our athletes gave a sterling performance at All Hallows this past week which resulted in an amazing victory over four other schools. Well done everyone!
Year 4 spent a wonderful day exploring the different habitats at Formby Point and considering the various forms of coastal defences on the beach. The weather was perfect for us and the children all gained much new knowledge to complement their studies in class.

The Year 6 girls competed in their first ever cricket competition, with both the A and the B team just missing out on a place in the semi-finals. But they had a great time in the gorgeous weather and showed real St Oswalds team spirit. Well done girls!
After some changeable weather our Infant sports day got under way under some blue skies! Thanks to all the children who competed brilliantly, the day was a huge success. Well done everyone!
Year 3 had a fantastic time at Ribchester Museum! They were able to hold Roman artefacts, see real Roman ruins and try on replica Roman armour!
Years 3 and 4 had a super time with Freddy Fit on Red Nose Day and everyone looked amazing with their ‘red’ hair!

Well done to all our year 2 pupils who took part in our Olympic event. The overall tournament was won by Ireland and all the children showed their Olympic spirit by cheering on their own countries!
