Welcome to Year 6.
Mrs Tipping is delighted to be teaching Y6 this year and is already looking forward to the Robinwood Residential 5th-7th March 2018!
This year the Year 6′s will take on added leadership responsibilities helping St Oswald’s to continue to be a happy and peaceful school. Y6 are always fantastic ambassadors for St Oswald’s and great role models for our younger pupils.

Minecraft comes to St Oswald’s! We all became game designers this term during our Computing week, bringing to life the world of Minecraft and creating our own games. We had a great time experimenting with the Zombies, Iron Golems and the rest of the Minecraft Universe and unearthed some real talent in all our classes. Year 6 had a fantastic 3 days at Robinwood…. here are some of the photos.
St Oswald’s Athletics Team had once again made it to the Lancashire Finals in Blackpool. They were up against 15 other top ranking schools in Lancashire. After a tough competition, the team ended up in 9th position. A huge achievement for everyone involved!
The juniors were visited by Spellbinder today who told some great stories based on the theme, ‘Heroes and Villains’. Year 6 also enjoyed seeing him for their last time after 7 years of visits! Thank you Spellbinder.
Year 5 and 6 Athletics Team were once again competing in the South Ribble finals against the top teams across Penwortham, Longton and Leyland. The Year 5 and 6 indoor athletics team took part in a competition at All Hallows High School. They were against 8 other primary schools and competed brilliantly. Everyone performed exceptionally as individuals and as a team. When the results came in, St Oswald’s won gold which put us through to the South Ribble Finals.

Year 6 Meet the Teacher Presentation.
A fabulous RE lesson for year 6. We acted out the Parable of the Prodigal Son to help with our understanding of unconditional love. This also helped us to explain which is more difficult, asking for forgiveness or forgiving someone.

Welcome to our French visitors…..
St Oswald’s celebrated the Euro 2016 with a tournament for Year 3, 4, 5 and 6. The competition lasted all day with the group stages in the morning and the semi finals and finals in the afternoon in front of the whole school. Congratulations to everyone who took part with lots of excellent teamwork!
The children worked so well this week to produce some excellent pieces of ‘Modern Art.’ The whole school followed the topic of FOOD GLORIOUS FOOD and studied an artist to produce their work ready for our well attended art galleries. Thank you to everyone who supported this fantastic event.

Today Year 6 led our Holy Week Liturgy. They did a great job telling the story of Holy Week through scripture, song and dance. Father Jean Paul was very impressed with their prayers.

After two amazing performances from the Indoor Athletics Team, Year 5 and 6, we progressed to the County Championships. This was held in Accrington where the top 16 schools from all areas of Lancashire came to compete. Another great performance from all the team which helped us finish 9th!
A fantastic effort by our children in completing the Winter welly walk. It was great fun and all for a great cause. A big thanks to everyone who sponsored our welly walkers and to Mr Gordon for organising the event. Well done everyone!

An amazing end to your primary school years. What a super performance!
This weekend we had a beautiful flower festival to celebrate our Church’s Golden Jubilee. Our church building was completed in November 1965 and has been the heart of the Catholic community in Longton for the past 50 years.

Look at the fantastic time we had today at Fulwood Barracks experiencing what it was like as a young recruit in World War 1.
Year 5 and 6 have commemorated the 1914 Christmas Truce where the British and German soldiers had set aside their weapons and met in ‘No Man’s Land’. Just as the soldiers did, the Juniors sang Silent Night in English and German and then enjoyed taking part in a ‘Football Remembers’ competition.
Year 6 enjoyed learning about what life is like as a Jewish child. They discussed many similarities and differences and asked some very detailed questions that Jeremy answered very well. The Year 6 girls competed in their first ever cricket competition, with both the A and the B team just missing out on a place in the semi-finals. But they had a great time in the gorgeous weather and showed real St Oswalds team spirit. Well done girls!

Year 6 spent a wonderful day of reflection at the Metropolitan Cathedral in Liverpool and afterwards at Crosby beach. The weather was very kind to us and everyone enjoyed their last outing together before they move onto High School.
Pupils from Y6 spent the morning at Media City, interviewing the lovely Bill Turnbull.
Year 6 had a wonderful day celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. They made special cards, created Jubilee Crowns, sang rousing wartime songs and were all presented with a certificate, a Jubilee edition of the New Testament and finally departed slurping an ice cold vanilla ice-cream!
A team of scientists from Manchester University led by Dr David Allison came to school today to teach us all about microbes and how to wash our hands properly.
Year 6 have been busy sewing colourful, fluffy hats as part of their Geography topic work on Mountains.
Our Y6 School Councillors represented the school at the Annual Schools Council conference held locally at Whitefield School.
Year 6 children enjoyed taking part in lots of activities to raise money for ‘ Children in Need.’
