Welcome to Year 2!
Mr Campbell and Miss Gravili are looking forward to teaching Year 2 and can’t wait to start all the fantastic learning this year! Mrs Anderson and Mrs Hodson are the Teaching Assistants and will continue to make sure that everyone remembers their reading books!
Year 2 have a range of fun and enjoyable topics including London long ago, Weather, Castles and Australia. These will engage and enhance the learning of all our creative children.
All the children had a fantastic day learning new skills during our 10th anniversary Super Learning Day. As part of the Longton Live celebrations we entered some photographs for the calendar competition. This was a great opportunity to explore photography and our outdoor area. The children learned some of the basics of photography and put their new skills to great use, taking some fantastic photos.
Minecraft comes to St Oswald’s! We all became game designers this term during our Computing week, bringing to life the world of Minecraft and creating our own games. We had a great time experimenting with the Zombies, Iron Golems and the rest of the Minecraft Universe and unearthed some real talent in all our classes. After a visit from Spellbinder on Monday, Year 5 were inspired to become Spellbinders themselves. They planned, wrote and performed a short story based on their current book, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. Year 2 were invited to see this special performance. Excellent work Year 5!

The children worked so well this week to produce some excellent pieces of ‘Modern Art.’ The whole school followed the topic of FOOD GLORIOUS FOOD and studied an artist to produce their work ready for our well attended art galleries. Thank you to everyone who supported this fantastic event.

On Saturday morning the infants came in ready for breakfast with Santa. There were plenty of games, fun and it even ended with a surprise visit from Elsa, for a story and a sing along.

This weekend we had a beautiful flower festival to celebrate our Church’s Golden Jubilee. Our church building was completed in November 1965 and has been the heart of the Catholic community in Longton for the past 50 years.
Congratulations to all our year one and two athletes! Everyone competed brilliantly and with huge smiles on their faces! A great effort from everyone. Well done!

After some changeable weather our Infant sports day got under way under some blue skies! Thanks to all the children who competed brilliantly, the day was a huge success. Well done everyone!
Well done to all our year 2 pupils who took part in our Olympic event. The overall tournament was won by Ireland and all the children showed their Olympic spirit by cheering on their own countries!
As part of our Olympic preparations, year 2 have been learning the art of fencing.

The NSPCC chose our school to create original art works as thank you gifts for the people involved in A Voice for the Children. This concert was in aid of Childline which is a service of the NSPCC. The concert featured Russell Watson and raised in excess of £30 000.
