Well done Year 1 on an amazing assembly! Mothers Day Assembly 2020
What a great effort from everyone at St Oswald’s! Buddy’s Workout was a huge success with everyone joining in and breaking a sweat to raise money for the NSPCC. Thank you and well done to our school council for planning and arranging the whole day! Remember to return your sponsor forms to school.
Straight back to the learning! We have been comparing the capacity of different containers.
The magic beans were very useful in our counting and adding.
We invited parents and grandparents to a ‘Stay and Play’ event. We made our own sandwiches and cakes. We all learned a song which we performed for our guests.
We had an exciting start to the week as real chefs from La Corte in Leyland came in to made delicious pizzas with us.
A memorable day at Young Voices at the M.E.N in Manchester. Everyone was fantastic and sang their hearts out. Well done once again to our amazing choir.
Another busy fortnight of learning. We made some delicious chips and learned about potatoes. We celebrated Chinese New Year and we made loaves of bread.

We have been learning all about dinosaurs. We also supported Children in Need and had our celebration at the end of our Welcome topic in R.E.
We learned about Bonfire Night and Remembrance Day this week.
We had a spooky week of learning. We made stick skeletons in the Nature Area. We looked at repeating patterns. Our pumpkin soup was delicious!

A busy fortnight of learning. We have been to the pond and on the balance bikes. We had a stay and play event. Henry, Les and Lynne entertained us. We celebrated the Harvest and said “Happy Retirement” to Mr Tindsley.
We’ve been writing invitations, counting candles and playing party games. A real nurse came to visit us and we asked super questions. We had a special celebration to end our R.E. topic.

A busy week again in Reception. We have been learning about shapes and investigating colour. We have been talking about Autumn and brought in conkers, leaves, feathers, acorns…….We had a brilliant day at the beach. We visited the Lifeboat Station and has a train ride. The Year 2 children came to read their Paddington stories to us.We ended the week by celebrating the European Day of Languages with a guest who read stories to us in Polish.
Today we put the finishing touches to our Paddington stories and had story time with Reception. Well done year 2!
A little look at some of the learning from Year 2 this year.
We have loved all our learning about Elmer. We had a lovely blessing in church with Father Michael to end the week.
We have been amazing all week in Reception. We have been on the balance bikes, learned some sounds, done some outdoor learning and had our first Golden Assembly!
All of our Reception children are settling in very well. They have been very busy with their learning already! Well done everyone.
Back to the learning after half term. We learned about different animals and their hearing. We made Father’s Day cards. The week ended with our Good Shepherd Fund walk/run!
We ended the half term with a lovely picnic. Our guest of honour was Sunshine Bear who danced and high fived the afternoon away!
We had a great afternoon in our beautiful grounds. First we had to crack the code!Then we read the message “we will have fun at the picnic”. We went up to the top field to find treasures, grasses, flowers, sticks and ferns. We used them to create a picture.
Everyone in Reception had a super sports day. Great attitudes on display. Every single person crossed the line! The Year 6 Sports Captains worked hard to make sure it all ran smoothly.
We have had another busy half term of learning in Reception.
Year 3 enjoyed their trip to the Museum of Science and Industry. We learnt about light and forces to help us with our Science topics.
Our new theme is ‘Growing’. We cleared out the allotments. We made delicious Welsh cakes for St David’s Day.
We made bread like The Little Red Hen. Thanks to the chefs at La Corte in Leyland who came in to make pizzas with us.
We tasted stir fry and prawn crackers. We used QR codes to find pictures about Chinese New Year. Our Chinese Cherry Blossom art was great.
A very exciting snowy week! We listened to different versions of Stone Soup. We made some seed and pasta art. The soup we made at the end of the week was delicious!
A super tiger themed week of learning. We invited special guests to our stay and play party. We all had a great time! Next week we are learning through the story of Stone Soup.
Oliver told his Grandpa he only ate chips but he discovered lots of different vegetables growing in Grandpa’s garden! We made chips and crisps. We made our tiger invitations for next week.
Handa put seven delicious fruits in her basket but something happened on her way to see her friend Akeyo! We have been writing about the story, making fruit kebabs and acting it out. We had a go on the balance bikes.
We’ve had a super busy time getting ready for Christmas. We wish everyone a Happy Christmas a New Year!

We had our ‘Welcome’ celebration. We delivered a welcome message to every class. The ‘Dinosaur Stomp’ is our favourite song and dance at the moment.
Year 2 had a wonderful day out at Bring Yer Wellies. We learned how to look after plants, build dens and create compost.

Reception class had a brilliant day at Blackpool Zoo.
Straight back to the learning after Half Term. We have been learning about skeletons. Our South Ribble coach came to teach us how to ride the balance bikes.On Halloween our super kitchen team made everyone a delicious spooky lunch!
We learned about how Percy took care of all the animals after the storm. We went into our Nature Area to build animal homes. We also learned about Judaism this week. Henry and Les came to perform their songs in Golden Assembly. We made our own band in Music. It was called The Rock and Roller Rock Stones!
Another great week of learning.We wrote to Prince Charming, measured our shoes and investigated the inside of a pumpkin. We also went on a successful Ladybird hunt on a beautiful Autumn day. Our week ended with a special ball and the Harvest Festival.
All our Reception children have settled in so well. It was Kipper’s birthday this week so we had a party!

We started the week by investigating London. We sketched London souvenirs. Shape was our focus as we looked at the work of Henri Matisse and how he drew with scissors.Our final piece was an interpretation of our black and white study of a London landmark.
We had a lovely walk around Longton. We posted a letter and had a story session with Tom at the library. We continued our walk to the park, had a delicious picnic and a play.
We’ve been learning through the stories of The Three Billy Goats Gruff and Rosie’s Walk. Exploring our school grounds as part of our Geography Day was really exciting! We are ready for Art Week next week, all about London.
We had a bit of World Cup Fever this week with a flag hunt. We watched the older children playing in their football matches. The ladybird went missing on Wednesday so we had to track him down! Next week our story is The Three Billy Goats Gruff.
We’ve had a super busy fortnight of learning since we started our new topic of ‘Journeys’. We have been learning about London and about Barnaby Bear’s visit to France. We have danced from the heart and joined in with a very exciting poetry parade!
We all had a great time at our picnic.Thank you to everyone who came. A very big thank you to Sunshine Bear who was our special guest!
A superb effort from everyone today! Great attitudes shown by all the children. The Year 6 sports captains kept it all running smoothly. Thanks to everyone who came to support the children and the weather was very kind!
We started the week with a bear hunt in our nature area, had another one in our outdoor area and another one on our field! We have also celebrated the Royal Wedding! We had a visit from two lambs and learned about how to care for them from their expert owners. We ended the week with a super sports day!
We have been making bear dens this week. We have done some gummy bear science and made really good predictions about what would happen. Our Teddy Bears’ Picnic invitations are nearly ready to go home.The Year 1 children came to read their super stories to us.
Last Thursday Year 2 had a fantastic trip to Skipton to see the medieval castle. We got to see the banquet hall, the dungeon and even the long drop and everyone learned lots about castle life. We all had a lovely time and the children showed lovely manners throughout the whole trip. Well done Year 2!
We have made puppets, built beds and chairs and tasted porridge. Our ideas when we made up our own races for Sports Day were really creative! We have done lots of gummy bear Maths too! Next week we are sticking with the bear theme but this time there is a wolf involved!

We have been learning all about Space this week. Next week we are learning through the story of a little girl with golden hair who eats some porridge……!
All about superheros this week! We have been writing rescue plans and making masks. Our wristbands unleash our super powers! We loved reading our brand new books too! We are going into Space next week with “Whatever Next”.
We listened to the Easter story and made an Easter garden. Year 6 led an Easter liturgy. We also had an egg hunt. The guitarists from Year 3 and 4 impressed us with their playing.
Reception children had a fantastic day at Bring Yer Wellies. We learned all about planting, recycling, den building, boat racing, composting, herbs and pond life! Phew! It was brilliant!
After doing our wanted posters for the villains in our stories, the police came to read them and they showed us what they do.
Year 1 have had the best time watching the chicks hatch and grow!
This week we have been learning about birds, making nests and fat balls. We made art with natural materials. Freddy Fit kept us all moving! We have been recalling our number bonds to 10 when bowling. All of us had a go at holding the chicks!
Thank you Freddie, once again, for your fun filled visit to St Oswald’s. Everyone had a great time working out and pushing themselves to achieve their personal best.
Our Tennis team of Year 4 pupils were competing last week in the group stages of the Year 3/4 Tennis Competition. This was their first chance to represent St Oswald’s and they didn’t disappoint as the team won their group and are now off to the South Ribble Finals at the end of April. Excellent […]
All about Superworm this week! We have made our own superworms, hunted for real worms, made homes for superworm, written potion recipes and made potions.Our visitors from Japan taught us about Soy beans. We went for a walk to our pond and the new chicks came to visit us. Golden assembly was a fabulous celebration to end the week!
We have had a very busy fortnight of learning about seeds and The Very Hungry Caterpillar. We have celebrated World Book Day, taken part in a workout for the NSPCC and welcomed visitors from Japan. Next week our story is ‘Superworm’.
We celebrated Chinese New Year. Father Michael came to bless us with ashes for the start of Lent. We acted out the story of Jack and the Beanstalk and did lots of measuring!
This week has been ‘story telling’ week for Year 5. We have been inspired by Spellbinder’s performances over the years and decided to create a few stories of our own to read (and perform) to Year 3, who really enjoyed them! Great work Year 5!
The fabulous chefs from La Corte in Leyland came in to make pizzas with us. We went on a 3D shape hunt. We wrote our own stories and read them to Year 2. Have a lovely half term!
This year our focus for Safer Internet Day was to Create, Connect and Share respect online. We looked at ways to be kind online and how best to share respect with one another.
We made bread like the Little Red Hen, a different loaf every day. Our stone soup turned out well too! A class worship marked the end of our topic of “Celebrating”.Next week real chefs are coming in to make pizzas with us.

After coming second in the Indoor Athletics competition, at The Priory High School back in November, St Oswald’s were ready for the South Ribble Finals at Lostock Hall Academy. Year 5 have been working hard these past few weeks on their Design and Technology project of creating a working Christmas toy. They have all done brilliantly and here are the final products. Well done Year 5!

We have been looking at non-fiction books this week. We have also been learning about Judaism. Real money has been spent in the toy shop.Our learning next week is through the film “Toy Story”.
When we arrived at school on Monday Harry’s bucket of dinosaurs had disappeared! We helped Harry to find it by making posters and we followed a map to find his dinosaurs.We enjoyed our Children in Need events in our pyjamas.
Straight back to the learning ! We had a visitor from Spain. We had a great day at Blackpool Zoo.Everyone was very respectful when we visited the Remembrance prayer space. Year 5 children were very impressed with our Dinosaur Stomp dance when we visited them!
We had a super Halloween learning day dressed up. We had spectacular PE, spooky subtraction, frightening phonics, made our own potions and much more!

Another very busy week of learning.We acted out the story of the three little pigs and made a story map. Becca from the PDSA came to tell us about her job. It was very interesting and she was really impressed with our listening. Next week we are learning through the story of Kipper’s Birthday.
Little Lumpty did not listen to his mum. He climbed to the top of the wall and then he was scared. We have been building Lumpty’s wall and re-telling the story. We went on a number hunt. The Harvest Celebration in church was a lovely end to the week.
All about Cinderella this week! We made crowns, pumpkin soup and some magical sparkly bath water. The ball was a great success. Prince Charming made a grand entrance and loved all our dancing.We also learned our new sounds! Next week our story is about Little Lumpty. Very eggciting!
What a busy week of learning. We have been acting out Mog’s story and drawing pictures. We have been learning with the Numicon. A nurse came to talk to us and we asked fabulous questions. Our P.E. was really exciting. We also learned about Autumn and our senses. The week had a special ending with a welcome blessing in church with Father Michael. Minecraft comes to St Oswald’s! We all became game designers this term during our Computing week, bringing to life the world of Minecraft and creating our own games. We had a great time experimenting with the Zombies, Iron Golems and the rest of the Minecraft Universe and unearthed some real talent in all our classes. We have been doing super learning over the last few weeks. We have been learning about Journeys. Our texts have included The Three Billy Goats Gruff, The Queen’s Hat and Flotsam.
The weather did not dampen our enthusiasm for the walk to the library. Tom read us two stories which we all joined in with. We also made some bunny ears as there was a dancing rabbit in one story! We all listened brilliantly!
The children worked so well this week to produce some excellent pieces of art.
The whole school followed the topic of the natural world (inspired by clips from Planet Earth 2) and studied an artist to produce their work ready for our well attended art galleries. Thank you to everyone who supported this fantastic event.
The last half term was fantastic as we performed in music, watched our caterpillars grow and transform into cocoons and then butterflies and started mini moovers.
What a busy week. We have looked at the artist Jackson Pollock. Our gallery got a lot of visitors. They were really impressed with the art. Well done to all the children!

We are loving all our Hungry Caterpillar learning. We have been writing, drawing and problem solving. Our student from Japan has enjoyed her week in Reception and the children have been teaching her lots of English!
St Oswald’s Athletics Team had once again made it to the Lancashire Finals in Blackpool. They were up against 15 other top ranking schools in Lancashire. After a tough competition, the team ended up in 9th position. A huge achievement for everyone involved!
Great learning from everyone again this week. We have made some super flower pictures, celebrated World Book Day, done some reading and problem solving. We started our Lenten journey by making pancakes and being blessed with ashes by Father Philip.
What a fun two weeks back in school! We had lots of new areas to explore, one was our new Police Station. We explored it and thought of questions to ask the Police. Then the Police came to visit us with their van and equipment. We got to ask them all of our questions! It was great fun!
To finish off a great two weeks, we got to dress up for World Book Day!
Our new theme for our learning is “Growing”. We stared by reading about Jasper and his Beanstalk. We made beanstalks as tall as our partner and we planted beans.
We have had a fantastic time looking at traditional tales so far! A police station is now open in class to catch all of the villains.
Year 5 have had an e-safety workshop delivered by ‘Imagine-Nation’ which covered all aspects of safe internet practice, including gaming, social media and keeping your personal information safe. Everyone really enjoyed the drama and have taken home some great messages for the future.
After a visit from Spellbinder on Monday, Year 5 were inspired to become Spellbinders themselves. They planned, wrote and performed a short story based on their current book, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. Year 2 were invited to see this special performance. Excellent work Year 5!
We learned about Chinese New Year in one exciting day.Miss Walsh has spent time in China and shared her interesting objects with us.We also sampled some food,listened to stories and sang songs!
The juniors were visited by Spellbinder today who told some great stories based on the theme, ‘Heroes and Villains’. Year 6 also enjoyed seeing him for their last time after 7 years of visits! Thank you Spellbinder.

We learned how to tell the story of The Little Red Hen with actions, then we made different types of bread. Our repeating patterns were great!Finally we acted out the story of Stone Soup and made our own soup(without the stone!).Next week the little red hen is making a pizza. Who will help her?
An action packed day in year 4 yesterday – we learnt about negative numbers, then we took part in the live science lesson from the BBC then we had a go using the Stop Motion app to make our animations. We had great fun!

Year 4 took part in the BBC Terrific Scientific programme this week, carrying out an investigation to see if we were Supertasters, tasters or non-tasters. It depends how many taste buds you have! It’s not easy to count them! Have a look at the pictures!

Straight back to the learning! We acted out the story of Handa taking the fruit to her friend Akeyo. We learned how to ride the balance bikes. Playing the real African drums was fun! Next week we be learning through the story of Oliver’s Vegetables!
Year 4 have been putting their scientific knowledge about sound to good use, making musical instruments which can produce different pitches. They can explain how they work too! There are some great ones. Well done all!
We have had lots of fun preparing for Christmas in year 1, including our nativity, a naughty elf visiting us and a visit from the dentist!
Year 5′s D&T project evaluated by Year 2
The Year 5 and 6 indoor athletics team took part in a competition at All Hallows High School. They were against 8 other primary schools and competed brilliantly. Everyone performed exceptionally as individuals and as a team. When the results came in, St Oswald’s won gold which put us through to the South Ribble Finals.
Year 4 enjoyed playing pass the parcel to find their Christmas presents today. Lots of new books have gone home tonight. We hope you enjoy them. Please bring them back to school once you’ve read them so that others can enjoy them too. You might even like to do a short book review to say whether you enjoyed the book or not and whether you would recommend it to your friends. Happy Christmas everyone!

This week we have had some very special visitors, police horses, Le Loup and everyone who came to our Open Morning. Our learning has been brilliant! Lots of number, reading and writing. For the next fortnight our learning is through the story of Funnybones.

A fabulous RE lesson for year 6. We acted out the Parable of the Prodigal Son to help with our understanding of unconditional love. This also helped us to explain which is more difficult, asking for forgiveness or forgiving someone.

We are halfway through our Little Owls induction programme already! We have got our special t-shirts, been on a bear hunt, met all the children and teachers, met real owls and explored our classroom! Next time we are going to our school pond.
A Year 3 and 4 team were taken to Walton-le-Dale High School to compete against 14 other teams. After a long morning of fantastic team work and excellent performances, St Oswald’s won the event. Great work team! Now on to the Blackpool Finals in July!

Year 1 had a fantastic day out at the Martin Mere Wetlands Centre. We spotted some day old cygnets, lots of ducks and some otters. We also fished for some creatures in the ponds and went on a wild walk. Thank you to all of our helpers, Mrs Faulkes, Mrs Corris, Miss Halai and Miss Steadman who took all our super photos. Well done to everyone on a great trip and a great day of learning.
The weather was kind for our Teddy Bear’s Picnic. We all enjoyed the food and performed our Rockabye Bear song really well. Our visitors had a great time too especially our VIP Sunshine Bear!

Year 3 had a great trip to the Chester Museum learning lots about Roman life and what it was like to be a Roman soldier. We became archaeologists, Legionaries and even marched through the streets of Chester!
A magical week in Year 1. Our Chicks arrived in style and made a home with us in our class. We watched them hatch and grow and recorded everything in our chick diaries. We were sad to see them go but look forward to hearing updates from the farmer on how they are getting on in their new home. Well done on a super few weeks year 1!
Today Year 6 led our Holy Week Liturgy. They did a great job telling the story of Holy Week through scripture, song and dance. Father Jean Paul was very impressed with their prayers.

After two amazing performances from the Indoor Athletics Team, Year 5 and 6, we progressed to the County Championships. This was held in Accrington where the top 16 schools from all areas of Lancashire came to compete. Another great performance from all the team which helped us finish 9th!
Another busy week . Spellbinder had us all enthralled with his stories. We made fudge for Valentine’s Day. We made Lenten promise butterflies and hung them on our tree. Father Jean Paul blessed us on Ash Wednesday. Have a great half term!

On Saturday morning the infants came in ready for breakfast with Santa. There were plenty of games, fun and it even ended with a surprise visit from Elsa, for a story and a sing along.

What a week in reception!
This Friday, Year 1 brought their super Hansel and Gretel stories to Reception. Well done Year 1!
Another busy week in reception. We started the week reading about Cinderella. We have made Cinderella her very own glass slipper, made Cinderella her very own bath and even managed to get Cinderella’s shoe out of a block of ice.
We said goodbye to our Japanese student, who made us a lovely origami card. We finished off our week with a ball and a visit from Prince Charming himself, who danced with us and gave each of us a chocolate mouse.
All the children in Reception have had another busy week of learning. We talked about our families and ended the week with a lovely blessing in church by Father Jean Paul.
The kitchen team worked hard to make a delicious lunch! There was a roast beef dinner,jacket potatoes or omelette. The salad bar was popular and the sticky toffee pudding was a definite hit! The Junior children enjoyed their lunch on a plate with proper cutlery too !
We have been so busy already in Reception! We have made Rainbow Fish which sparkle on the window and biscuits which we ate at our ‘Meet and Greet’ .Hope to see you next Friday in church for our blessing.Well done to all the children for their brilliant start!

This weekend we had a beautiful flower festival to celebrate our Church’s Golden Jubilee. Our church building was completed in November 1965 and has been the heart of the Catholic community in Longton for the past 50 years.
20 children from Years 5 and 6 have just returned from an amazing week with their friends in Nîmes.
A group from Year 5 and a group from Longton School both had a great time learning to bowl and then competing for the prized SPAR Bowling Cup.
As the weather was so kind we had our end of year assembly outside.We also managed to incorporate some races on the track as our own sports day was held inside! Well done everyone, you are all ready for Year 1!

With the heatwave hitting the UK, Years 3 and 4 had a difficult task to compete in their events for Sports Day. Both years did brilliantly trying their hardest for their houses. Well done to everyone for giving it their all during this very hot day!

Phew! This week we have recorded a CD, learned through the story of Rosie’s Walk, made a special card for our Dads, had Sports Day and danced from the heart. Next week we will going around the world in 5 days !

Five children from Year 3 were chosen to represent St Oswald’s school for the Gymnastics competition held at Walton le Dale High School where they had to memorise a floor routine and a vault routine. Every single one of the team enjoyed the morning, performed really well and were great ambassadors for the school.

We had a real expedition to the pond! We saw butterflies,cows and different flowers. We will get closer to the pond when the gardeners have tamed it a bit! Everyone was fantastic at getting their wellies on and off!!!

A busy week of learning to start the Summer term! Everything is growing, we’ve been to the pond. We had our first gymnastics session with our South Ribble Coach and she thought we worked really hard.Next week our story is ‘Giraffes Can’t Dance”.
Our French visitors arrived safely and ready for an exciting, action packed week at St Oswald’s.
A busy fortnight, labelling flower pictures, making Hot Cross buns and getting ready for Easter. Freddy Fit was impressed with our listening and our super moves!
We started the week learning through the story of The Hungry Caterpillar and then moved on to learning about snails- we found out that snails hibernate! We found plenty of interesting creatures on our bug hunt.Next week we are going to look at non-fiction books about plants and animals.
Lots of outdoor learning this week.We have planted beans, potatoes and carrots and made a wormery. We also spotted frog spawn in the pond. Next week we will meet a very hungry caterpillar!

Our science investigation: Where do our cats go when they go out and about?
We invited parents and grandparents in to celebrate the end of the half term.There was Vegetable and Leek and Potato soup with five different kinds of bread. Spellbinder had us enthralled with his stories. Our South Ribble coach was impressed with our skills on the pedal bikes.

Look at the fantastic time we had today at Fulwood Barracks experiencing what it was like as a young recruit in World War 1.
Year 5 and 6 have commemorated the 1914 Christmas Truce where the British and German soldiers had set aside their weapons and met in ‘No Man’s Land’. Just as the soldiers did, the Juniors sang Silent Night in English and German and then enjoyed taking part in a ‘Football Remembers’ competition.

Our athletes gave a sterling performance at All Hallows this past week which resulted in an amazing victory over four other schools. Well done everyone!
We had a fantastic day at the zoo. The weather was beautiful and we saw many different animals. The dinosaur safari was really exciting!
Year 3 have been very lucky to have been visited by Gaius, a Roman soldier, who came to talk about life as a Roman. He brought many real Roman artefacts which all the children were able to touch and even wear!

For our senses topic we tasted cakes we baked, smelt some different spices, looked at all the different colours in our nature area. To finish off our learning we made our very own book of senses and read to reception.
So far this year we have been blessed with good weather so year 1 have taken their learning outside at every opportunity. We have been on sense walks, sketched our local area and made mini nature areas, nature monsters, leaf flowers, mini habitats, tree rubbings, witches wands and much more.
The new season has kicked off and our teams looked every bit the part in our new kits. Thanks to Mr Rawlinson for sorting out our kit and of course our fantastic PTFA!

We had an out of this world experience with our rocket science this super learning day. Solving clues, building rockets, investigating our fuels and firing our rockets made for a busy but exciting day in mission control. Well done to everyone that took part. Super learning at its best!
What a brilliant week! Learning about space, a visit to Longton and Freddy Fit! If that’s not enough we were part of the whole school trip to see The Lion King in Liverpool which was absolutely stunning! Well done Reception!
Year 3 and 4 have had another great time doing lots of exercise with skipping, hula hooping and dancing. He had new challenge with the boys versus the girls for the ‘Strength Test’ where it ended in a draw! Thanks again Freddy!

In Reception we have been on a whistle stop tour of some of the countries in our world! We visited France, Brazil, India and the USA, tasting the different foods, playing games and lots more! A super week!

Year 4 had a great time in Ancient Egypt. We ploughed the fields, sowed the corn, harvested the crops, made the bread, and built pyramids. Do you recognise any of our Ancient Egyptian visitors?
Year 3 finally did their amazing dance at both the Dance Festival in school and the Friendship concert in the Guild Hall. All the hard work of practising has paid off with both performances being their best yet. Watch out Britain’s Got Talent!
Another busy session! We had a story about Oola the owl with an ice lolly in our nature area. We met some of the Junior children and teachers in their classrooms. We also watched some of the Years 3 and 4 sports day. Phew!

We made pancakes and re-planted our sunflowers. The Fair Trade food we tasted was delicious! We have started our Lenten journey. Our story next week is ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’

Another busy week of learning. We have had two stories about Oliver. On Friday we started our celebration of Chinese New Year with the whole school in the hall with a dragon dance and song!In class we made dragons and a delicious stir fry.
We have been learning all about the heart in Science by handling and disecting real hearts.
We have been learning about the Indian culture, we have tried Henna hand decorating, Rangoli patterns and Elephant art.
This week all our learning has been through the story of The Little Red Hen.Next week our story is Oliver’s Vegetables. We will also celebrate Chinese New Year on Friday.

Reception performed The Very Hopeless Camel with Year 1 and 2. They sang beautifully and the acting was superb! We have been learning through our topic of toys and also preparing for Christmas.

Our story this week was about Sam who made a kite with Dad but the kite needed someone bigger to fly it! We have made and tested our own kites. The police dogs visited us as well!

Year 5 have been investigating the movement created by a cam mechanism by making a variety of moving toys.
What a wonderful day of learning at Blackpool Zoo. The weather was kind and all the children enjoyed seeing the variety of amazing animals.
This week our story was Funnybones. We have been counting skeletons, picking our favourite part of the story and learning about our bodies.
Year 3 and 4 have put Freddy through his paces once again. Well done everybody!! We hope to see Freddy back again soon.

A brief look at some of the super learning our year 1 class have done so far this year.
This week we have been doing lots of egg based learning! We built walls for Lumpty and counted the bricks, tested how rubber eggs bounced and other eggciting activities. We ended the week by presenting the gifts at the Harvest Celebration.
Year 6 led the harvest celebration beautifully. Everyone joined in with the singing and the salsa !
Year 4 recently visited Formby Point and the Eco Centre at Southport.

As part of ‘Our Local Area’ topic, Year 3 assumed the roles of; Navigators, Explorers and Investigative Journalists on their trip to Longton. On our way, we met plenty of locals who helped us learn more about our local area. Well done Year 3!

What a busy week of learning through the story of Red Riding Hood. We also had a visit from two Police horses and their riders. The children listened beautifully and asked super questions. Next week our book is Little Lumpty which is a version of Humpty Dumpty.
Year 5 visited the Cuerden Valley Trust to support their geography topic about rivers.
Mountain Rescue Team Visit 2013
We ended our week of learning through the story of Cinderella with a ball. Prince Charming visited the ball with gifts from The Fairy Godmother. Year 1 have been writing brilliant stories and brought them to read to all the guests. We also enjoyed tiara cakes made by Madeline’s mum and a drink.
Angela from The Dog’s Trust visited Reception today. She brought her rescued dog, Sebastian with her. The children learned how to look after their pets properly. Angela was very impressed with how well all the Reception children listened.
Our Reception children have settled in already. They started their school learning journey through the story of The Rainbow Fish. Next week their story is Mog and the VET.

We have had a busy week! We made chocolate lollies, decorated cakes, packaged our herbs and made butterfly pegs. We sold out and made a profit!
Inspired by the lives of Ragpicker children in India, year 5 have recycled and upcycled tins, jars and fabric to create unique gifts. A donation from each item sold will be made to Tearfund, a Christian charity who help Ragpickers. Visit our stall early – first to see will buy! Here are some photos!

We have all had a great time getting to know each other, finding out about our different cultures and customs, practising our French and having fun. What a busy last day of learning for this half term! We took part in our super athelete challenges and danced away with our teddy ears. We named and released our butterflies.We had another picnic on our top field and found all the clues to solve a teddy problem!
After some changeable weather our Infant sports day got under way under some blue skies! Thanks to all the children who competed brilliantly, the day was a huge success. Well done everyone!
Reception class took their bears to Cuerden Valley. They found out what bears like to eat and drink. The children worked together to build very creative shelters. Everyone enjoyed their picnic lunch too!
Year 1 had a great day at Windmill farm. We fed the animals, took a train ride to an island and even had time to practice our climbing. Well done year 1 on a super trip!
The weather was very kind for our sports day.Everyone competed very well and it was a close result in the end!
After a much anticipated delivery of our eggs, we now have a flock of healthy chicks. Year 1 have been super farmers and taken wonderful care of our new recruits. We have been learning about life cycles and making some super chick hand paintings. More to follow…
We will be leaving school about 9 30 am and you are welcome to come and wave your child off. Everyone needs a packed lunch and drink in a refillable container. We will be back, tired and grubby, about 5 45 on Friday afternoon, having had a great time!
This spring term we put our green fingers to the test and made some mini gardens.
What an amazing day of learning outside. We all went canoeing in the canal and danced along with The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The logpile and mouse houses we made in our Gruffalo session were very inventive.We also made the butterfly fly with the parachute and when we got to the end of the trail we found a chocolate surprise!
We had a fantastic day of learning at the Butterfly House in Lancaster. We saw butterflies, rabbits, birds,squirrels and terrapins. We handled African snails, snakes and cockroaches ! The staff commented on how well we listened, asked questions and were respectful.

A tasty breakfast was enjoyed by all of us. We had Fairtrade juice, honey and bananas. We are going to look out for the Fairtrade logo when we are out shopping.
We celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as a book character. The costumes were brilliant. All the children took home a copy of Alfie’s Shop by Shirley Hughes.
Yr5 designed, crafted and painted their own Henna patterns using air-dry clay.
On Friday we celebrated Chinese New Year by making paper snakes and delicious food.
This week we rang in the year of the snake in style! The infants entertained us all with their dragon dancing and celebrated the afternoon away with noodles, snake charming and fortune cookies!
This week year one visited Booths. We had a go on the tills, visited behind the scenes and some of us even sat in the Boss’s chair! A super day out!
The children should all have brought home their plan of the healthy, balanced meal they are going to make next Tuesday, 12th February together with a list of the ingredients they need. If you haven’t seen this, please ask your son/daughter. They are all becoming quite proficient cooks so I hope to see some lovely lunches.

We have been reading The Tiger Who Came To Tea this week. The tigers have been going home to have tea with the children. Year 1 children visited us to read their fabulous lion stories. They stayed for the tiger tea party too!
